Coast Guard Rescues Stranded Boater in North Carolina

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – A Coast Guard HH-60 Jayhawk Rescue Helicopter from Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., rescued a stranded boater today in Neuse Creek in the vicinity of Cherry Point, N.C., after he was reported overdue.

Rescued was Greg Williams.

Williams was reported overdue initially by his wife when he did not return home at a pre-scheduled time. Williams was located at approximately 5:45 p.m., standing on his skiff, which was partially submerged in shallow water. He was hoisted onboard the HH-60 Jayhawk Rescue Helicopter and transported to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point where he was evaluated by medical personnel.

The Craven County Sheriffs Department, Coast Guard Station Hobucken, N.C., Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, and Cherry Point Fire and Rescue assisted with the search.
