Coast Guard rescues snowmobiler from Mount Adams

SEATTLE — The Coast Guard rescued an injured snowmobiler from Mount Adams, Wash., Sunday.

The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office and the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center contacted the Coast Guard around 1:30 p.m. regarding a 50-year-old man who was injured while snowmobiling with a friend at an elevation of approximately 5,000-feet on Mount Adams in Yakima County, Wash.

The Coast Guard was called in to help expedite the rescue since it would have taken authorities approximately two to three hours to reach the injured man from the ground.

A rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Astoria, Ore., was diverted from a search-and- rescue demonstration at Hood River, Ore., approximately 40 miles south of the mountain.

After a brief search the helicopter crew located the individual and successfully hoisted the man and transported him to Legacy Emanuel Hospital and Health Center in Portland, Ore.
