Coast Guard rescues overdue Kayakers

SEATTLE – The Coast Guard assisted crews from Mason County, Wash., with the rescue of three kayakers who were reported overdue at 10:40 p.m., Sunday.

The three missing people had been kayaking in the Skokomish River near Annas Bay, Wash.

The Coast Guard launched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Port Angeles, Wash., to assist Mason County authorities with the search at about 12:00 a.m.

At 4:20 a.m. the Coast Guard helicopter crew hoisted two of the three kayakers after familiy members located them stranded along the Skokomish River. The two kayakers were transported to a local medical facility for evaluation. The Coast Guard helicopter crew helped the third kayaker walk out of the area to reach assistance.

The cause of their stranding is unknown at this time.
