Coast Guard rescues one, continues searching for second person

BOSTON -Coast Guard crews are searching for a person in the water around Black Point in Narragansett, R.I., tonight.

Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England in Woods Hole, Mass., received a call from a 911 dispatcher around 6 p.m., reporting two people in the water needing assistance.

A 41-foot boat crew from Station Castle Hill, a 47-foot boat crew from Station Point Judith and a Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Cape Cod, Mass., began searching the area.

The helicopter crew recovered one person and transported her to Narragansett Emergency Medical Services around 7 p.m.

The crews are continuing the search for the second person.

“We remain hopeful that this case will have a positive ending,” said Lt. Patricia Ferrell, the command duty officer at Sector Southeastern New England. “Right now we plan to search through the night in hopes of finding the person safe.”
