Coast Guard rescues missing diver north of Lake Worth Inlet

65 MiamiMIAMI – The Coast Guard rescued a 28-year-old male Tuesday 7 nautical miles north of Lake Worth Inlet.

Watchstanders with Coast Guard Sector Miami received a report of a missing diver at about 6 p.m. Tuesday after the diver failed to return to his boat. The watchstanders directed the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station Miami MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew, a Coast Guard Station Lake Worth Inlet 33-foot Special Purpose Craft boat crew and diverted the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Richard Etheridge. Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with the search.

The helicopter crew located the missing diver at about 7:30 p.m. and vectored in the Cutter Richard Etheridge crew. A small boat crew from the Cutter Richard Etheridge rescued the diver and returned him to his boat with no reported medical concerns.

The Coast Guard Cutter Richard Etheridge is a 154-foot fast response cutter homeported in Miami.
