TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. – The Coast Guard rescued a man and two children in distress in Cross Bayou, Tarpon Springs, Monday.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg were notified at about 10 p.m. Sunday by a man reporting that he and another 39-year-old man and two boys, 10 and 12, were on jet skis and had run aground in Cross Bayou. One of the men was able to walk to shore to call 911.
A Pasco County Sheriff’s Office deputy was unable to reach the stranded jet skiers in a boat due to the shallow water.
A Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Fla., MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew responded and safely hoisted the three stranded jet skiers at about 12:45 a.m. Monday. They were taken to Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater where they were treated by local EMS.
Pasco County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
