Coast Guard Rescues Man, Pet Bird from Tree

HOUSTON – The Coast Guard rescued a man who was stranded in a tree 75 feet off the ground in Porter, Texas, Tuesday evening.

A Porter resident had climbed a tree in his back yard to rescue his pet bird and became stranded. Local rescue units including ladder trucks from the Montgomery County Fire Department were not able to get close enough to the tree due to the proximity of the houses and muddy ground.

A watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Houston/Galveston received a call from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at 6:15 p.m. requesting assistance. An HH-65C Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Houston launched at 6:35 p.m. The helicopter arrived on scene, and safely hoisted the man from the tree.

The man and bird were flown to Williams Airport in Porter. Both were reported to be in good condition.
