Coast Guard rescues man out of swamp near Houma, La

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard rescued a man out of a swamp approximately 2 miles north of Houma, La. today, after the man was reported missing earlier this morning.

A watchstander at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a call for assistance from the Terrebonne Parish Sherriff’s Department at approximately 5:30 a.m., stating that a man was reported missing in a swamp and had not returned last night.

Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans launched an HH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter and crew to search for the the missing man. The crew spotted the man near the shore and hoisted him into the helicopter at approximately 7 a.m.

Crewmembers began treating the man for hypothermia and transported him safely to Terrebonne General Hospital .
