SAN FRANCISCO — A Coast Guard aircrew rescued a 61-year-old man who ran his 32-foot sailing vessel aground in the Oakland Estuary, Saturday evening.
Coast Guard Sector San Francisco watchstanders received the man’s 911 relay call around 5:40 p.m., reporting his vessel had run aground and was listing about 30 degrees after he missed a buoy in the Oakland Estuary.
A boat crew from Coast Guard Station San Francisco and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco launched to assist, but the boat was unable to reach the man due to shallow water.
The Dolphin crew arrived on scene and lowered a rescue swimmer, who retrieved the man from the vessel and helped him into the helicopter rescue basket to be hoisted.
The crew transported the man to Coast Guard Island around 7:15 p.m. with no reported injuries.
