Coast Guard rescues man in Lake Pontchartrain

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard rescued a man in Lake Pontchartrain, today at approximately 8 a.m. along the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway near Metairie, La.

A watchstander at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a call from the Causeway Police Department stating that the man reportedly jumped from the causeway and was in need of assistance.

Sector New Orleans launched a 41-foot rescue boat from Coast Guard Station New Orleans. The man was brought aboard the rescue boat and transported to Station New Orleans where he was released to officers from Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

“Great communication and coordination between the Coast Guard and Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office resulted in this successful rescue,” said Chief Andrew Jones, executive officer from Coast Guard Station New Orleans.
