Coast Guard rescues man from waters near New Haven, Conn.

1st Coast Guard District NewsNEW YORK – The Coast Guard rescued a person from the water near the Fort Nathan Hale Park pier, off New Haven, Conn., this afternoon.

Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound, Conn., received a request for assistance by the New Haven Police Department at 3:40 p.m. to locate and recover a man in the water that reportedly jumped from the park pier.

A Coast Guard Station New Haven 25-foot rescue boat crew, already underway, was diverted to the scene and recovered the man conscious and uninjured. The man was transferred to emergency medical services waiting at Station New Haven.

“Thankfully a station rescue boat was nearby and able to respond in a short amount of time,” said John Olsen, the sector command duty officer on watch during the rescue. “Our boat crew was there within minutes of receiving the call.”
