Coast Guard rescues man from vessel near Manasquan Inlet, NJ

Coast Guard District 5 NewsMANASQUAN INLET, N.J. – The Coast Guard rescued a boater on a 28-foot sailing vessel after he became disoriented during heavy weather conditions about five miles offshore here Friday.

Rescued was Arthur Gingrich, 60.

Gingrich contacted the Coast Guard via VHF-FM channel 16 radio at approximately 6 p.m. reporting the 20-knot winds and 8-foot waves caused him to lose control of his boat and was in need of help.

An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., arrived on scene and hoisted Gingrich into the helicopter and transported him back to the air station where he was transferred to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Mainland Campus in Pomona, N.J.

The vessel remains anchored offshore and will be salvaged at a later time.
