Coast Guard rescues man from swamped boat

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard rescued a man today near the Bonnet Carre Spillway, La., today after the boat he was on sunk and ran aground.

Rescued was Francis G. Perry, 51, of LaPlace, La.

The Coast Guard received the report from an officer with the Louisiana State Police who spotted the man from the elevated I-10 bridge. A rescue helicopter crew from Air Station New Orleans was dispatched and conducted a high-altitude hoist amidst numerous dead trees and debris.

Perry was flown to Air Station New Orleans and released to awaiting emergency personnel.
