Coast Guard rescues man from sinking vessel off Miami Beach

7th Coast Guard District NewsMIAMI — A Coast Guard helicopter crew from Air Station Miami rescued a man from a sinking vessel 16-miles off the coast of Miami Beach, Fla., Monday.

Coast Guard Sector Miami watchstanders received a call at approximately 12:35 p.m., from a man stating his vessel was taking on water and required assistance 16-miles off the coast of Miami Beach.

The caller was unable to pass his latitude and longitude position on the marine emergency frequency, Channel 16, before he lost radio communication.

Sector Miami watchstanders immediately launched an MH-65C helicopter from Air Station Miami. The helicopter crew arrived on scene within minutes and located the vessel taking on water.

A Coast Guard rescue swimmer was deployed into the water and hoisted the man up in the rescue basket. The distressed mariner was brought to Air Station Miami where he was cleared with no medial concerns.
