Coast Guard rescues man from sinking skiff

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard rescued a man from a 14-foot skiff that was reportedly taking on water, one mile west of the Chandelier Islands in the Gulf of Mexico, Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008.

Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a report at approximately 1 p.m. from the man on the skiff by marine radio reporting that his skiff was taking on water and was in need of assistance.

Sector Mobile launched a HH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter and crew from Air Station New Orleans. The helicopter crew arrived on scene, hoisted, and transported the man to the Gulfport Airport where he was transfered to awaiting EMS.
