CHARLESTON, S.C. – A Coast Guard helicopter rescue crew rescued a man from Morris Island, S.C., Monday at approximately 2 a.m. after being stranded on a remote beach accessible only by boat.
Rescued was a 30-year-old male from Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
The man was initially aboard a 41-foot recreational boat and departed the boat to swim with a friend. The boat was not anchored and began to drift shortly thereafter. One person was able to swim back to the boat.
Search and rescue coordinators at Coast Guard Sector Charleston were notified of the missing swimmer at approximately 7:20 p.m. via 911 relay from Isle of Palms dispatch.
A MH-65 helicopter rescue crew from Coast Guard Air Facility Charleston responded and located the man stranded on Morris Island.
The man was transported to awaiting EMS at Air Facility Charleston located aboard Charleston Executive Airport where he was reported to be in stable condition.
