Coast Guard rescues man from grounded vessel near St. Catherine’s Island

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Coast Guard rescued a man Tuesday from a grounded vessel near St. Catherine’s Island, Georgia.

Coast Guard Sector Charleston watchstanders received a report from Sea Tow at 8:24 p.m. of a grounded 20-foot center console with one person aboard. The last communications with the vessel stated, “the situation is deteriorating and I need help.” A Coast Guard Air Station Savannah MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew diverted to assist.

At 8:58 p.m., the Dolphin crew arrived on scene, hoisted the man and transported him to Hunter Army Airfield in stable condition.

The owner plans to salvage the vessel.
