Coast Guard Rescues Man From Disabled Boat

TOLEDO, Ohio – Coast Guard Station Toledo medically evacuated a 49-year-old man from a 19-foot Blue Sea Ray offshore a half-mile east of Turtle Island today at approximately 4:30 p.m.

A 25-foot response small boat crew arrived on-scene within approximately 10 minutes to transfer the Toledo native to awaiting Emergency Medical Services on shore.

“Our main concern was the vessel was disabled and one of the passengers was faint. Our concern was getting this person back to shore for help,” said Machinery Technician 2nd Class Lance Sapp, Station Toledo Officer-of-the-Day (OOD).

The station received a distress call from the pleasure craft just minutes after 4 p.m., in which there was a vessel adrift in Maumee Bay with a person requiring medical evacuation.

No one was injured, and a salvage company towed the pleasure craft to a Toledo-area marina.
