WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Coast Guard rescued a 60-year-old man Saturday after he reportedly fell into the water approximately seven miles east of Cape Lookout.

A crewmember aboard the 31-foot sailboat, Warrior’s Wish, contacted Coast Guard Sector North Carolina Command Center watchstanders at approximately 9:40 p.m. via VHF-FM channel 16 reporting the captain of the Warrior’s Wish fell into the water and was in need of assistance.

Sector watchstanders dispatched crews aboard a 47-foot Motor Life Boat from Coast Guard Station Fort Macon, the Coast Guard Cutter Staten Island, a 110-foot patrol boat homeported in Atlantic Beach, and diverted a crew aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City to assist.

The MLB crew arrived on scene at approximately 10:50 p.m., retrieved the captain from the water and began towing the Warrior’s Wish to Station Fort Macon.

The captain was reportedly wearing a life jacket, and no injuries were reported.
