Coast Guard rescues man 200 miles off Tampa, Fla.

CLEARWATER, Fla. — A 51-year-old man was rescued by the Coast Guard 200 nautical miles southwest of Tampa, Fla., Monday.

Coast Guard watchstanders in Miami were forwarded the distress call after the man contacted the International Emergency Response Center via spot device reporting a back injury.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew and an HC-130 Hercules aircraft crew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Fla., arrived on scene, hoisted the man and transported him to Tampa General Hospital in stable condition.
