Coast Guard rescues kayakers and good Samaritan near Shinnecock Bay, N.Y.

NEW YORK – The Coast Guard rescued three people aboard a Good Samaritan’s vessel near Shinnecock Bay, N.Y., today.

Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound received a call at approximately 4:55 p.m. from a Good Samaritan reporting that he had picked up two kayakers when their vessel was beset by weather. The Good Samaritan requested assistance when his battery failed and his vessel became disabled.

Coast Guard Station Shinnecock launched a rescue boat crew, who arrived on scene and escorted one adult and one 12-year-old female off the Good Samaritan’s vessel and brought them to the station to be picked up by relatives. The Good Samaritan contacted a commercial agency for assistance.

Both of the kayakers were reported to be in good condition.
