Coast Guard rescues kayaker near Matagorda, Texas

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard rescued a kayaker near Matagorda, Texas, Friday evening.

Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi watchstanders received a call from a kayaker stating that his kayak sank after taking on water, leaving him clinging to an ice chest with a lifejacket on.

A Coast Guard Station Port O’Connor boat crew and a Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew was launched. The Port O’Connor crew rescued the man from the water and transported him to the Port O’Connor Fishing Center.

Texas Parks and Wildlife arrived and towed the man’s kayak to Port O’Connor Fishing Center.

There were no reported injuries.
