
Coast Guard 24 foot Special Purpose Craft – Shallow Water File Photo
PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard rescued a kayaker from the water Wednesday, after he was separated from his kayak near Cedar Island.
The GEOS International Emergency Response Coordination Center contacted Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads watchstanders at 1:48 p.m., stating the man had activated his emergency GPS device.
A Coast Guard Station Wachapreague boat crew was launched on a 24-foot Special Purpose Craft – Shallow Water. Once on scene, the boat crew pulled the man and his kayak from the water.
The man was transported to shore to meet waiting EMS and was taken to Riverside Hospital to be treated for hypothermia.
