Coast Guard rescues jet skier in distress near Nestucca Bay, Ore.

ASTORIA, Ore. — The Coast Guard rescued a jet skier in distress near the entrance to Nestucca Bay, Ore., Friday.

Coast Guard Group North Bend, Ore., received a call at approximately 2 p.m., stating a jet skier had rolled and stalled his watercraft after jumping a wave.

An HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station North Bend, already in flight, was diverted to the area.

The helicopter crew arrived on scene at approximately 2:20 p.m., and lowered a rescue swimmer.

The helicopter crew hoisted the jet skier and transported him to Pacific City Airport where he was evaluated by local EMS and taken to Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital in Lincoln City, Ore.

He was last reported in stable condition.

The Coast Guard emphasizes the importance of wearing a lifejacket, especially when operating a personal watercraft.
