Coast Guard rescues injured man from South Padre Island jetty

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard rescued a man trapped on the rocks near the South Padre Island jetty, Saturday.

A watchstander at Coast Guard Station South Padre Island received a call reporting that a man was caught on the rocks on the North side of the South Padre Island jetty at approximately 1 p.m. The Coast Guard launched a 33-foot Response Boat-Medium and crew from Station South Padre Island and a MH-65C Dolphin helicopter and crew from Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi.

The Coast Guard helicopter crew located the man, hoisted him, and flew him to Coast Guard Station South Padre Island to awaiting EMS workers.

The man reportedly suffered a leg injury.

The Coast Guard reminds beach goers to be aware of weather forecasts to ensure their safety.
