Coast Guard rescues injured diver

MIAMI — An injured diver was medically evacuated by a Coast Guard aircrew after an offshore boating incident occurred near Biscayne Bay, Fla., Sunday.

While on routine patrol, the crewmembers of an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Miami received a mayday alert from a boater near Biscayne Bay, stating he was on scene and assisting a diver who had suffered deep laceration to one of his legs due to being struck by another vessel and required medical attention.

The helicopter crew arrived on scene at approximately 2 p.m., and safely hoisted the injured diver. The diver informed the helicopter crew that the propeller of another vessel struck him while he was diving.

The 27-year-old injured diver was transferred to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials are investigating cause incident.
