Coast Guard rescues hunters from Montague Island – with Video

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Coast Guard received notification over VHF-Channel 16 radio at 5:48 a.m. Saturday that two hunters were stranded on Montague Island in Prince William Sound.

One of the two men had suffered an injury to his leg during a fall and was unable to walk. Both men believed they were close to hypothermia as they were in wet clothes and unable to start a fire.

Initially the Coast Guard directed the case but control of the case was turned over to the Anchorage Rescue Coordination Center (RCC).

A Kodiak-based MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and crew rescued both hunters and delivered one to his father on the beach near their camp on Zaikof Bay. The injured man was delivered in stable condition to Providence Anchorage Hospital.
