Coast Guard Rescues Four People Near Fisherman’s Island

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – A Coast Guard HH-60 Jayhawk Rescue Helicopter Crew from Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., hoisted four people from a 28-foot vessel late Friday night after the boat ran aground in the vicinity of Fisherman’s Island, located at the base of the Virginia Eastern Shore.

All four people were transferred to Norfolk Sentara General Hospital for medical evaluation.

The Coast Guard urges boaters to have a marine band radio onboard their vessel. Not only are radios a more reliable way to communicate distress during an emergency, but they are also useful for monitoring weather conditions that may place a boater in danger.
