Coast Guard rescues four people from grounded fishing vessel

HOUSTON – The Coast Guard rescued four people from the grounded fishing vessel Lucky Peter, off the South Jetty in Galveston, Sunday.

At 3:13 a.m. watchstanders at Sector-Houston Galveston received a call from a Good Samaritan reporting a flare siting. Watchstanders also received a call from a relative of one of the crewmembers of the Lucky Peter confirming the fishing vessel was taking on water. A crewmember on board the Lucky Peter was finally able to contact the Coast Guard and notify watchstanders of the vessel’s position.

An Air Station Houston MH-65C rescue helicopter crew and the Coast Guard Cutter Heron were dispatched to assist as well as a 47-foot rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Galveston.

The Heron rescued all four people from the fishing vessel and transferred the men to the 47-foot boat. The crew of the 47′ delivered the men to awaiting EMS. The condition of the men is unknown.

The owner of the Lucky Peter has hired a salvage crew to safely remove the fishing vessel from the South Jetty.
