Coast Guard rescues four people at Yaquina Bay, Ore.

13th Coast Guard District NewsSEATTLE — The Coast Guard rescued four people stranded on a grounded commercial vessel near Newport, Ore., Saturday.

Coast Guard Group/Air Station North Bend, Ore., received notification at approximately 5 p.m. that a vessel was stranded on the south jetty at Yaquina Bay, Ore., with four people on board.

Two 47-foot motor lifeboat crews from Coast Guard Station Yaquina Bay deployed to assist, but could not safely transfer the stranded crew in worsening weather conditions.

Coast Guard Air Facility Newport, Ore., deployed an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew and hoisted the four people from the grounded vessel to the jetty rocks, where they were able to walk to shore. No injuries were reported and no pollution has been sighted.
