Coast Guard rescues four from sinking pleasure craft

SAND KEY, Fla. — The Coast Guard rescued four males after their 18-foot pleasure craft began to take on water approximately four miles northwest of Clearwater Pass, Fla.

Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, Fla., received a call over VHF-16 at approximately 1 p.m., from a Good Samaritan relaying that he had seen four boaters in distress by waving a t-shirt in the air and calling for help.

Sector St. Petersburg notified Coast Guard Station Sand Key and at approximately 1:10 p.m., they diverted a 25-foot small response boat crew who was on patrol to the scene.

The Coast Guard crew arrived on scene at approximately 1:40 p.m., and was able to safely transfer all four males onto the Coast Guard boat.

The Coast Guard transferred the men and towed their pleasure craft to the Seminole Boat Ramp in Clearwater, Fla.

No injuries were reported.
