Coast Guard rescues four boaters at Galveston’s north jetty

Coast Guard 8th District NewsHOUSTON — The Coast Guard rescued four boaters after their vessel lost steering and washed against the rocks on the north jetty in Galveston, Saturday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston received a report via cell phone at approximately 4 p.m. from a woman who said her and her family’s 20-foot pleasure craft were being washed into the rocks on the jetty.

The Coast Guard launched a MH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter and crew from Coast Guard Air Station Houston and a 25-foot Response Boat-Small and crew from Coast Guard Station Galveston to assist.

A good Samaritan answered the Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and attempted to take the distressed vessel in tow. However, the good Samaritan’s tow line snapped. Having arrive onscene during this attempt, the RBS then safely took the pleasure craft in tow.

No injuries were reported.
