Coast Guard rescues fleeing suspect after he falls through pier in North Bend, Ore.

ASTORIA, Ore. — The Coast Guard rescued a 21-year-old male, suspected of probation violation, after he fell through a rotting pier while attempting to evade police in North Bend, Ore., Monday.

Coast Guard Group/Air Station North Bend was contacted by North Bend Police at approximately 5:30 a.m. after the man fell through the rotting structure while being chased from The Mill Casino in North Bend. Police officers were unable to locate the man, and it was suspected he may have fallen into the water below. A 25-foot motor lifeboat crew from Station Coos Bay, Ore., and an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from North Bend were sent to assist with the search.

The Coast Guard boat crew located the man under a dock near where he had fallen at approximately 7:25 a.m. The man was taken to Bay Area Hospital in North Bend to be treated for hypothermia and was subsequently released into police custody.
