Coast Guard Rescues Fisherman near Cumberland Island, GA

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Coast Guard search and rescue crews rescued a fisherman off the coast of Cumberland Island, Ga., Thursday night.

Bobby Hall, the captain of the 72-foot Miss Candy II from Mayport, Fla., was four miles off Cumberland Island when his boat began to take on water. Hall radioed the Coast Guard for assistance.

A helicopter from Air Station Savannah, Ga., located the Miss Candy II and stayed on scene until a Coast Guard Station Brunswick 41-foot boat arrived and rescued the man from the sinking vessel.

Hall was safely brought back to the Coast Guard station in Brunswick. A helicopter from Air Station Savannah returned to the last known position of the Miss Candy II and was unable to locate the vessel Friday morning. There were no signs of debris or sheen in the area.
