Coast Guard Rescues Distressed Mariner

MAUI – Oahu and Maui-based Coast Guard crews rescued a distressed mariner today about 3 miles southeast of Kahoolawe.

The Coast Guard was notified by a family member at 2:30 p.m. concerning a local Maui man whose 21-foot boat was taking on water.

A rescue aircraft crew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point and a rescue boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Maui responded to the incident, which occurred at about 2 p.m.

Rescue crews arrived on scene at 3 p.m. and immediately began de-watering the boat; a rescue helicopter remained on scene to assist, if necessary.

The boat is currently under tow by Station Maui personnel and will be taken to the small boat station.

There was no report of injury or pollution.
