Coast Guard rescues capsized boaters near Bahamas

MIAMI – The Coast Guard is currently assiting two people after their vessel capsized 50 miles south of Andros, Bahamas, Monday morning.

Coast Guard search-and-rescue coordinators in Miami received notification that two persons wearing lifejackets were standing on top of their capsized vessel.

The Coast Guard immediately launched an HU-25 Falcon jet and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Miami. Once on scene, the Falcon crew was able to deploy a liferaft to the boaters. Both boaters safely boarded the liferaft and were hoisted onto the Dolphin, who will be transferring them to Doctors Hospital in Nassau, Bahamas.

The Coast Guard urges all boaters to always wear a life jacket while on the water. Wearing a life jacket will greatly increase your chance of survival during an emergency such as this one.
