Coast Guard rescues canoer east of Satellite Beach

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Coast Guard rescued a 59-year-old man Tuesday who was canoeing off the coast of Satellite Beach.

At 2:47 a.m., Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville Command Center watchstanders received a notification from Brevard County Sheriff’s Office stating a male canoer may be in distress two miles offshore.

A Coast Guard Station Port Canaveral 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew and a Brevard County Sheriff’s Office helicopter launched to assist.

At approximately 6:05 a.m., the RB-M crew located the man on his overturned canoe and transported him to Jetty Park where EMS was waiting.

No injuries were reported.
