MIAMI — The Coast Guard rescued a 49-year-old boater injured in a fireworks accident east of Bimini, Bahamas, Sunday.
Coast Guard Sector Miami was notified of the incident at 6 p.m. Sunday. The man was reportedly injured while handling fireworks onboard a 35-foot vessel while en route to North Bimini. After consulting with a Coast Guard flight surgeon, watchstanders launched an MH-65 search-and-rescue helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Miami. The Coast Guard aircrew was able to safely hoist the injured man from the vessel and transported him to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
