KODIAK, Alaska – The Coast Guard medevaced a 37 year-old female who was injured while operating an all terrain vehicle 50 miles inland from Point Hope, Alaska Friday.
The woman was medevaced by an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew that was predeployed aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Midgett and taken to Point Hope for advanced medical care.
Coast Guard 17th District watchstanders were contacted at 3:34 p.m. by North Slope Borough Search and Rescue who requested Coast Guard assistance to rescue a 37-year-old woman who suffered a back injury while operating an all terrain vehicle.
The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Midgett launched their onboard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and crew at 5:01 p.m. The helicopter crew arrived on scene at 5:53 p.m. and successfully loaded the injured woman via stretcher onto the aircraft, and transported her to Point Hope where she was transferred to awaiting emergency medical services who took her to Point Hope Hospital for treatment.
“This case highlights the value of having a flight deck equipped cutter in the Bering Sea,” said Lt. j.g. Evan Steckle, a district 17 watchstader. “Multi mission capable assets like the Coast Guard Cutter Midgett allow the Coast Guard to respond to a variety of scenarios off the Nothern Slope of Alaska..”
The Coast Guard Cutter Midgett is a 378-foot high endurance cutter home ported in Seattle Wash., and the MH-65 Dolphin helicopter that is deployed aboard the Midgett is from Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak.
