MIAMI – The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Vigilant repatriated 38 Haitian migrants to Cap Haitien, Haiti, Tuesday.
The crew of the Vigilant located an overloaded 25-foot sailing vessel approximately 35 miles south of Great Inagua, Sunday. Once on scene, a total of 38 Haitian migrants were safely transferred to the Vigilant from the sailing vessel, which was taking on water throughout its voyage. Vigilant crewmembers destroyed the sailing vessel as it posed a danger to navigation
Once aboard a Coast Guard cutter, all migrants are provided with food, water, shelter and basic medical attention.
