Coast Guard rescues 88-year-old man from cruise ship northwest of Cuba

Johnson)MIAMI — An 88-year-old man was rescued by a Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from the Carnival Victory cruise ship northwest of Cuba Sunday.

Rescued was Herman Steidel Lebron, 88, from Puerto Rico.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard 7th District command center received the report from the Victory stating Lebron suffered internal injuries during the cruise. After consulting with the flight surgeon, he was recommended for medical evacuation.

A Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60 helicopter aircrew arrived on scene and safely hoisted Lebron from the cruise ship. He was then transported to Lower Keys Medical Center in Key West, Fla.
