Coast Guard Rescues 8 From Water

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Coast Guard rescued eight fishermen yesterday after the boat they were on sank approximately 2 miles east of the Port Aransas, Texas jetties.

At approximately 9:45 p.m. Friday, the crew of the 32-foot fishing boat Los Almos radioed the Coast Guard to report they were sinking.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi dispatched the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Cypress and a rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Port Aransas to assist. When the crew of the Cypress arrived on scene the fishermen were in the water.

The Cypress crew sent a small boat to retrieve the eight men who were fishing in the area when the incident occurred. The rescue boat crew from Port Aransas then transported all the fishermen to Station Port Aransas where they were met by family members.

The Cypress is a 225-foot buoy tender based in Mobile, AL. It was in the area performing aids to navigation work for NOAA.

None of the men reported any injuries.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
