BALTIMORE — The Coast Guard rescued a 72-year-old man from the water Friday after his kayak capsized in the Potomac River near the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge.
A boatcrew aboard a 29-foot Response Boat-Small II from Coast Guard Station Washington was underway when they were flagged down by a good Samaritan who notified them of an elderly man in a capsized kayak.
The RBS-II boatcrew diverted and recovered the man from the water. The man was taken to Thompson Marina.
“We were please to see the man was wearing a lifejacket,” said Lt. Cmdr. Sara Wallace, chief of response at Coast Guard Sector Maryland-National Capital Region. “You can never be too safe, and the life jacket helped this man stay afloat until the Coast Guard could get on scene.”
No injuries were reported.
