Coast Guard rescues 7 people off Galveston

HOUSTON – The Coast Guard rescued seven people, including a child, after their 32-foot boat started sinking 15 miles off Galveston, Texas.

A crewmember onboard Platform GA 209 notified the Coast Guard after they spotted a flare and saw a boat that appeared to be sinking. The crewmember also reported that someone onboard the boat was waving an orange flag.

Coast Guard Air Station Houston launched an HH-65C Dolphin helicopter and Station Galveston diverted a rescue boat to assist.

After the rescue boat arrived, all seven people were transferred over while the Coast Guard crew dewatered the vessel. Once the boat was successfully dewatered, the rescue boat towed it back to the Galveston Yacht Basin.

All passengers were wearing lifejackets.
