Coast Guard rescues 6 Cuban migrants, searches for 2 off Boca Raton

GannettMIAMI — The Coast Guard is searching for two missing Cuban migrants who were reported missing Wednesday two miles east of Boca Raton.

The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Gannett rescued six Cuban migrants from the water.  The group was spotted by the cutter crew while transiting the area during a patrol. The rescued migrants said two others from their group have reportedly been missing since sunset Tuesday.

A Coast Guard Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crew, crews from Coast Guard Station Lake Worth Inlet and Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale, and the Coast Guard Cutter Dolphin crew are searching.

All six rescued migrants were found in good condition, and some are being treated for displaying signs of dehydration.

A Customs and Border Protection Office of Air Marine aircrew is also assisting in the search.
