Coast Guard rescues 6 boaters from capsized catamaran off Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Coast Guard rescued six boaters from a capsized catamaran east of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Thursday.

Operational watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville were notified at 4:48 p.m., Thursday, by a good Samaritan vessel that a 12-foot catamaran had capsized approximately 200-yards east of Ponte Vedra Beach.

A Coast Guard Station Mayport, Fla., 45-foot rescue boat crew arrived on scene at 5:25 p.m. and rescued the boaters.

All 6 boaters were wearing lifejackets and on top of the catamaran at the time of the rescue.
