Coast Guard rescues 5 near St. Helena Sound, S.C.

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Coast Guard rescued five people near Otter Island in St. Helena Sound, S.C., Wednesday.

Rescued were two adults, and three children.

Search and rescue controllers from Coast Guard Sector Charleston were notified at 10:02 p.m., Tuesday, from local 911-dispatch reporting a mayday distress near Otter Island in St. Helena Sound.

A Coast Guard Station Charleston 25-foot rescue boat crew and a Coast Guard Air Facility Charleston MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter crew were launched. The helicopter rescue crew safely hoisted the 5 boaters at 12:14 a.m., Wednesday, and transported them to Charleston Executive Airport.

There were no reports of injuries.
