Coast Guard rescues 5 after boat capsizes

Coast Guard District 5 NewsPORTSMOUTH, Va. — A Coast Guard 27-foot rescue boat crew pulled five from the water five miles off of Bogue Inlet, Emerald Isle, N.C., today.

Three adults and two children were on board the vessel when it capsized.

The boat operator contacted Coast Guard Sector North Carolina watchstanders at approximately 12 p.m. Saturday, reporting that the boat was in danger of sinking due to deteriorating weather.

A boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Emerald Isle launched and arrived on scene at 12:21 p.m.

The crew of a Sea Tow vessel, who was also on scene, assisted in the rescue. One man was unresponsive upon recovery and the Coast Guard started rescue breathing while en route to Station Emerald Isle and awaiting emergency medical services.

Upon arrival, EMS took the man to Carteret General Hospital.
