Coast Guard rescues 4 from sinking vessel

45 New OrleansNEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard rescued four people from a sinking vessel approximately six miles west of Southwest Pass, Thursday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report of a vessel that was taking on water at 4:52 p.m.

The boaters managed to tie the vessel off to an unmanned rig.

Coast Guard Station Venice launched a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium and Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans launched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter.

The helicopter arrived on scene at 6:07 p.m. and lowered a rescue swimmer to the vessel who confirmed that there were no medical concerns on board.

The four passengers were transported aboard the response boat to Station Venice in stable condition.
