MIAMI — Coast Guard has rescued 33 suspected migrants who jumped in the water from their grossly overloaded vessel 7 miles east of Boca Inlet, Florida.
The suspected migrants were spotted by a Coast Guard C-130 aircrew that is searching for two missing Cuban migrants stemmning from a case that began on Monday. Upon seeing the migrants, the Coast Guard launched multiple assets including:
- Coast Guard Cutter Shrike
- Coast Guard Cutter Robert Yered
- Coast Guard Station Ft. Lauderdale and Coast Guard Station Lake Worth Inlet search and rescue boats
Upon our assets arriving on scene, the suspected migrants were taken aboard Coast Guard smallboat and safely transferred to a Coast Guard Cutter for basic medical attention if needed.
Local agencies also assisted in the rescue.
